To understand the effects of extending foster care eligibility for youth in California to age 21, researchers have surveyed foster youth throughout the state episodically since age 16 or 17. This memo reports on findings from surveys with youth around age 19, covering their individual characteristics and family background, perspectives on foster care, employment, hardship, social support, and many other life domains. Findings have important implications for child welfare service providers and others involved in promoting well-being and resilience among transition-age foster youth.
