Because California has the largest foster care population in the country by state, its extension of foster care through age 21 has national implications. This study explores outcomes among foster care youth at age 19 in Los Angeles County, including whether extended foster care influences their outcomes as they transition to adulthood, what affects the support they receive during this time, and how living arrangements and services influence this transition process. Findings outline participants’ personal characteristics, family history, experiences in foster care, and perspectives on various domains, from education and employment to health and life skills, among many others. This report provides valuable information for stakeholders seeking to ease the transition from foster care to independence and adulthood.
